Not sure what I expected for a 13 page booklet ... but this booklet was most unusual. The recipes are not written for the typical "American" cook and there's only 8 recipes - total! And one "recipe" is for a typical protein shake, while 2 other recipes use oats/oat flour (thought Keto meant no grains). Anyway, disappointed in this purchase.

Pretty good

I thought it was pretty good and showed me how I can be a better clan leader. I really liked the middle where it was like a checklist more than a tutorial. The list of clients at the end was VERY helpful. I don't feel it was worth $5 but I thought it was a good read.

About the Author
William J. Duiker is liberal arts Professor Emeritus of East Asian studies at The Pennsylvania State University. A former U.S. diplomat with service in Taiwan, South Vietnam, and Washington, D.C., he received his doctorate in Far Eastern history from Georgetown University in 1968, where his dissertation dealt with the Chinese educator and reformer Cai Yuanpei. At Penn State, he has written extensively on the history of Vietnam and modern China, including the highly acclaimed COMMUNIST ROAD TO POWER IN VIETNAM (revised edition, Westview Press, 1996), which was selected for a Choice Outstanding Academic Book Award in 1982--1983 and 1996-1997. Other recent books are CHINA AND VIETNAM: THE ROOTS OF CONFLICT (Berkeley, 1987), U.S. CONTAINMENT POLICY AND THE CONFLICT IN INDOCHINA (Stanford, 1995), SACRED WAR: NATIONALISM AND REVOLUTION IN A DIVIDED VIETNAM (McGraw-Hill, 1995), and HO CHI MINH (Hyperion, 2000), which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2001. While his research specialization is in the field of nationalism and Asian revolutions, his intellectual interests are considerably more diverse. He has traveled widely and has taught courses on the history of communism and non-Western civilizations at Penn State, where he was awarded a Faculty Scholar Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the spring of 1996. In 2002, the College of Liberal Arts honored him with an Emeritus Distinction Award.

Jackson J. Spielvogel is associate professor Emeritus of history at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, where he specialized in Reformation history under Harold J. Grimm. His articles and reviews have appeared in journals such as "Moreana," "Journal of General Education," "Catholic Historical Review," "Archiv für Reformationsgeschichte," and "American Historical Review." He also has contributed chapters or articles to "The Social History of Reformation," THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE: A DICTIONARY HANDBOOK, "Simon Wiesenthal Center Annual of Holocaust Studies," and "Utopian Studies." His work has been supported by fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation and the Foundation for Reformation Research. At Penn State, he helped inaugurate the Western civilization course, as well as a popular course on Nazi Germany. His book HITLER AND NAZI GERMANY was published in 1987 (Seventh Edition, 2013). He is the author of WESTERN CIVILIZATION, first published in 1991 (Ninth Edition, 2015). Professor Spielvogel has won five major university-wide teaching awards. During the year 1988--1989, he held the Penn State Teaching Fellowship, the university's most prestigious teaching award. In 1996, he won the Dean Arthur Ray Warnock Award for Outstanding Faculty member, and in 2000 received the Schreyer Honors College Excellence in Teaching Award.

Refreshing

I just recently purchased this book and i really enjoy it. It's about time this somewhat obscure defence received more attention. Move order is 1.c4 b6, 2.d4 e6 with Black's 3rd move usually Bb7. The only drawback is if White opens 1.d4 King says it's very important to answer with e6. This of course gives White the option of 2.e4 which leads to the French defence. So you will have to brush up on the French a bit if you expect to employ this opening since 1.d4 seems more popular than 1.c4
Contrary to King's axiom that 1.d4 players would rather use 2.c4 than 2.e4, i have not found this to be the case. The book is very well written though and perhaps adding the French back into my repertoire was a good idea anyway. You won't be disappointed.

Sound Analysis, Clearly Explained, Immediately Useful

Grandmaster King follows the standard Cadogan Publisher's format very effectively: clear explanation of thematic ideas, key moves identified and model games employed to illustrate these ideas and moves. Each chapter is neatly summarized, games are annotated, and I think very useful to most intermediate players and ambitious beginners. I think that the coverage is comprehensive (when I compare it to MC0-14) for an opening generally regarded as solid and positional rather than dependent on specific move orders.

The important thing is you see what does matter in pawn structure, queenside pawn majority, attacking the center through the use of pinning or even removing its defenders( Bb4 pin or knight takes bishop at d3), opening lines for your b7 bishop, a thematic f5 if the position calls for it, how to avoid f4 by white when the knight is placed typically on g6, and other themes that are discussed as you traverse this field of discovery. The other thing I really like about this book is at the end of each chapter there is a summary going over the ideas in the game, also an opening tree of the different variations played with references. If anything else you will gain a better understanding of hypermodern concepts and the book is entertaining. I recommend it for something different to add to your repertoire to throw your opponent off if you want to avoid typical english setups, or even common d4 openings; and maybe in the process have a better unerstanding of fianchettos.
