En Consejería bíblica, tomo 2: Manual de consulta sobre el matrimonio y la familia, por Dr. Tim Clinton y Dr. John Trent, es, como su nombre indica, un manual de consulta sobre diferentes temas pertenecientes a la familia y el matrimonio. Los autores abordan temas contemporáneos como comunicación en el matrimonio, conflictos familiares, pérdida de un familiar, divorcio, y otros asuntos de interés para las familias. ED LIPIANSKY has worked for Varian Associates, Tandem Computers, Sun Microsystems, Google, and Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley. Nice!! Fundamentals to Advanced without Mystifying

I was looking for a book to give to my daughter in college...one that would make her love the subject, not loathe it eventually, or use to try and somehow get through with barely adequate grades,only to happily forget it forever. I am a Physics double post-grad, brought up in the Feynman style of explaining and understanding: feed the intuition, but stick solidly to the facts. Ed's book, I pleasantly found does just that...he starts at the very basics...and ramps up to advanced topics skillfully, never leaving the reader behind. He often writes out the equation in almost text style sometimes: like R_parallel equivalent = product of both divided by sum of both. Now that is how it sticks to the memory forever...that is how I remember it on the job, funny no textbook could tell you that off the bat.

Ed's book moves very effortlessly into a particularly enlightening chapter where he explains in order: Superposition principle, the Thevenin method, Norton's method, the Mesh method, the Nodal method, then summarizes these such as: Superposition Theorem Highlights: It is is divide and conquer approach....etc. then shows the same circuit, solved by all the methods so you can decide which one suits you the most! Very nice. No mystification. To the point.

Ed moves similarly through Op-amps, comparators, BJTs, MOSFETs, and then over to binary numbers, Karnaugh maps, logic gates (explained brilliantly I thought), decoders/encoders, adders, latches...state machines and finally: a simple CPU design.

Ed is trying to explain and make you love the subject as much as he obviously does. One of the memorable quotes attributed to Feynman is: "If you can't explain something to a first year student, then you haven't really understood it..."

That is why I am happily loaning this to my daughter (I intend to steal it back on weekends to refresh myself).

Excellent backup text for 2nd and 3rd yr computer engineering

When I was in university, I studied computer engineering and found it difficult - the topics are very abstract and the pace of new material moves very quickly.
Aside from doing all the exercises I could, I found that having an alternate textbook was also very helpful. It was great to get a second perspective on complex subjects and to hear things explained slightly differently from way it was explained in the course textbook. My favorite alternate digital design books, for example, were by M. Morris Mano but these are dated now, most likely so I'd hesitate to recommend them.

However this book by Ed Lipiansky falls into this same category but it goes one further because it wraps up the content of many computer engineering undergrad courses into one book: basic RLC circuits, semiconductors, logic design, state machines, and an intro to computer architecture all in one book.

I think it's an excellent reference but most of all I think it's an excellent book for undergrad computer engineering students to help them get through many of the tough classes.

the Author does a great job at 'spoon feeding' abstract topics.
while many textbooks tend to stay at higher level he tries to do both the higher level and cover the details.
while the text may look 'long' it pays off especially for interview preparation or for someone who is new to the
topics.

Great Cigar Book, Not as Much for a Pipe Enthusiast.

This book is a great read for the beginner and veteran alike. I recently started smoking cigars about a year ago and was looking to educate myself. This book provides a great foundation for cigar smokers and a tiny bit about pipe tobacco and pipes. This is a very easy read and I had read it cover to cover within a few days of it arriving at my doorstep. It is a good book for reference, a reread, coffee table, and a great gift for those that have a love for Lady Tobacum. If you're looking for a well rounded base for the knowledge of cigars, then buy this book in tandem with "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars - by Tad Gage."

Further, if you're looking to be a certified tobacconist (http://www.tobacconistuniversity.org), then this is the suggested handbook for that certification. I've not taken the test(s), but I'd have to imagine that you should have some experience beyond just reading this book. In addition, you may want to read the aforementioned book, and purchase a book that targets pipes and pipe tobaccos.

If you're looking for a pipe smoking or pipe tobacco book, this isn't for you if that is your main interest. I'm not versed in pipes or associated tobacco, but it did provide a simple introduction to this world and I did learn things I never knew.

I previewed the book at my local tobacconist-smoking club, and realized that I knew little technical information. I recommend the book for any serious cigar smoker. I have been smoking cigars for 64 years. I especially liked the author's discussion about the "flavors " of cigars. On a recent trip to Cuba in March, 2013 we were hosted by an official of one of the world's most famous cigar makers. I asked him about the "flavors" of cigars-hints of coffee, chocolate, citrus, etc. etc. His reply ,"Larry, our cigars taste like tobacco." The book supports that same notion. I now feel no guilt when a good cigar yields me "just tobacco."

I plan to take the consumer certification course soon.

Thank you for the opportunity to learn more and to make my cigar smoking experience even more enjoyable.

Good for the Beginner and Enthusiast Alike

I bought this because a friend of mine was taking his test as a employee of a cigar shop and said it had a few interesting facts that even he didn't know. I'm a 35+ year cigar smoker and I keep this in my cigar room to stimulate conversation amongst my friends as we smoke cigars and talk. We each read a bit as we pass it around from chair to chair and it brings up topics & explainations that most cigar smokers don't know. I learned quite a few things from this book myself and those that say it's amateurish are totally off base. Every level of cigar smoker can learn a thing or two from this well written book that is easy to read and is just the thing to impress your cigar buddies with your new found expertise next time you meet up to burn a few! If you are serious about cigars, why not own the handbook that pretty much sums up all the nuts & bolts of growing, selecting the leaves, storing the tobacco, rolling, aging, and smoking cigars?

I liked Marvin Redpost because it was funny . The reason it is funny to me because he kept trying to kiss his elbow. He almost got caught kissing his elbow. He started to act like a girl . He was wondering why girls giggle when they come out of the bathroom. He liked the way girls did thiings with their hair. He started to bite his finger like a girl in his classroom. He said that girls are lucky because they can wear anything they want like shorts, skirts and dresses and get to get boys in trouble more than boys get girls in trouble. My favorite part was when he tried to kiss his elbow and got tangled up in his sheets.

I've read the book twice. Great book. Casey tells Marvin that if you kiss your elbow, you will turn into a girl. At first, Marvin doesn't believe her, but when Marvin kisses his elbow, he thinks he really is turning into a girl! Very hilarious! If you like books where the character thinks that they are something else than what they really are, then you'll love this!

Marvin Redpost #3 is Fun!

I have read all of the Marvin Redpost books, but I liked Is He a Girl? best because it was very fun and suspenseful. It is a fun story because Marvin thinks he is a girl but he doesn't tell his friends. He believes that he is starting to like girl things but I think that there is no difference in girl and boy activities. I think Marvin sees this too. I think this is a fun book for eight or nine year olds to read and younger kids to listen to.

Spark Cookbook is a great book for venturing into Spark and get a hands on understanding of different Spark features via recipes .
This book covers recipes across different Spark Libraries namely Spark Core, Spark Streaming, Spark SQL, MLlib, GraphX etc.
Highly recommended for anybody who wants to get their feet wet in this bleeding edge technology of Big Data !!

I can't believe this book is being sold in the Cookbook family that I have come to associate with quality (ref: Scala Cookbook etc). The english is terrible (and its not just aesthetics - some sentences just don't make sense (e.g "Spark RDDs are a great way to store datasets in memory while ending up with multiple copies of the same data in different applications"). Then sometime soon after:
"Please SSH to master node and start slaves: hduser@ s1. zettabytes.com ~] spark-class org.apache.spark.deploy.worker.Worker spark:// m1. zettabytes.com: 7077") You ssh to master node, and what is shown is a slave node (...Slaves s1. zettabytes.com...)
I kept going thinking that maybe I was not following and it was my fault, but the subsequent examples were all half-baked. The tachyon sample doesn't clarify anything about the words folder or file. In the next chapter ("Hadoop MapReduce's word count becomes very simple with the Spark shell. In this recipe, we are going to create a simple 1-line text file, upload it to the Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS) "). If this is going to be a cookbook, it needs to be complete. There is an earlier chapter on installing Spark with Hadoop YARN, but this chapter doesn't mention anything about HDFS installation (I kept getting a port error on 9000).

amazon thankfully accepted my kindle return. I will just take my chances with online resources.

Fast food of the books

The book is written not too thoroughly. Simple stuff is clear, but it also can be found in online spec. The more complicated topics, like Kafka, are written hastily, figures don't explain the concepts, notations in the figures are not explained, etc. In other words, everything that is easy is presented okay. Everything that is not clear from other sources, is messy and not explained well. No deep knowledge or extensive experience or thorough work on the book.
